I'm not sure this is technically a consolidation, because Greenhoe shut down for a time before being acquired by Schilke this year. The machine tooling had been offered for sale to the tech community when Greenhoe shut down. Clearly, Schilke has seen value in the designs, especially because they have their own line of tenor trombones that are gaining in acceptance in the trombone community. You can read more on Schilke's web site at www.schilkemusic.com/schilke-music-products-acquires-greenhoe/
I posted about consolidation earlier this year at consolidation-continues-in-the-mi-business.html Expect to see both more consolidations in the near future and more start-ups and spin-offs.
